I have always been a Chanel foundation kind of girl! Don’t get me wrong! I still am! But as a beauty addict, I feel that is my “duty” to try new foundations whenever I get the chance to.
The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation rumbled the beauty world a little while ago. And even if it is quite late, and everybody ( …and their dogs! ) have already posted a review on this, forgive me, but I couldn’t help it! I had to join the crowd and tell you what an amazing base product this is!
It is a liquid foundation which has a fluid, ultra-smooth texture that glides all over the skin and dries to a natural, slightly matte finish. But it is not completely matte it also gives a natural, healthy glow to the skin, accentuating and enhancing at the same time your skin’s features. It is a gorgeous oil-free fluid which features an exclusive Micro-fil technology, that gives an all-day sheer to moderate coverage depending on your necessities. If I want a no-makeup-face I apply it with my Tom Ford #02 Foundation Brush and blend it very well. When I go to an event or I have an important meeting I go for more coverage and I apply the product with a beauty blender ( I’m currently using the Real Technique one ).
The formula contains fragrance ingredients and a small concentration of alcohol known to cause irritation, especially near the eyes. However, the iffy ingredients have no effect on my sensitive skin because they are present in a small percentage.
The Luminous Silk Foundation works best for normal to slightly dry or slightly oily skin, and comes in over a dozen lovely colours, for the fairest to the darkest skin ( 23?! different shades ), more than any foundation I’ve seen before! My shade is #4 and it matches me perfectly!
This is THE foundation to use for light coverage and an unbelievably skin-like results, bonus that perfect glow! Smooth and flawless! I think it is the kind of foundation that gets better with time: I put it on before leaving the house and just looks even better after 1 hour. It just responds so well to skin’s temperature as it blends seamlessly, and it does not oxidize throughout the day.
Perfect to use for big events when you are photographed a lot, as it will not make you look like a ghost!
Bottom line: now I have 2 holy grail foundations: the Chanel Vitalumière Aqua ( read the complete review here ) for an everyday use and for special occasions I take out the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation.
– pic recycled from another post – the Favourite BURBERRY Lip Combo for Hot Summer Days: the Burberry Lip Glow #19 Mallow Pink Natural Lip Gloss and the Burberry Lip Definer in #02 Dusty Rose where, as a base, I used the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
See you soon, beautiful!
xx, Annie

Great post! I really want to try this but have always been to scared as I have an oily T Zone | http://www.xolollypop.com

hi, lovely!
my t-zone tends to get a bit oily during the day too! but I have an amazing powder to take care of that. it’s the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra powder ( here is the review: https://anniesbeautyblog.wordpress.com/2014/02/22/by-terry-hyaluronic-hydra-powder/ ) or the Maybelline Matte ones, if you want a more affordable option.
before you splurge on this foundation you can always try it on as many times as you want at any GA counter or even to ask for a sample to use at home!

I like to juggle a few foundations at the same time, depending on where the mood takes me each day 🙂 currently I have on the go: Le Teint Touche Éclat from YSL, Skin Foundation Stick from Bobbi Brown and a BB cream from Estée Lauder. But the Georgio Armani foundation sounds too good to resist!! 🙂 xx

So you are a bit more coverage kind of girl! I love the YSL and the Estee Lauder BB has the best coverage from all the BB’s I’ve tried! *thumbs up* Curious about the Bobbi Brown one! Usually stick foundations scare me a bit! How is this one?

I like how versatile it is! I blogged about it recently: http://mybeautylookbook.com/2014/06/24/skin-foundation-stick-by-bobbi-brown/ 😀 it’s quick and easy, great on the go! X

Still my HG! Others have come quite close but I still really love this one. Since I’ve been obsessed with chanel Lumière velvet recently, I really wanna try vitalumiere aqua.

hi Judy! 🙂 HG indeed! hehe!
I have to say that as much as I like the Chanel Velvet the Vitalumiere Aqua is even better. I find it gives my skin a natural glow that the Velvet doesn’t, and I really like that! 🙂 xx

Yeah the velvet seems almost too matte for me, we’ll upon application that is. I bet that I’ll love vitalumiere aqua.

Ha ha! lol! although given my “no foundation” foundation love do you think I should try this? I hope it does not feel heavy!
LikeLike
absolutely! generally, the foundations that tend to feel heavy are those with full coverage. the Luminous Silk can be applied in a sheer layer for a natural look and it will still give you enough coverage. it is also buildable to a full medium coverage without being cakey, tacky, itchy or a greasy carnival!
I only use one pump and I still get enough coverage to be pleased.
well!… I have a pea sized head… but anyway, it really didn’t turn out heavy on me! not once!
😉 xx

I love your reviews but I have a question. Since, your blog is focussed towards designer brands which tend to be expensive, is there a way that you get them at a lower rate ,because honestly they are out of my budget otherwise.

hi beautiful! thank you so much for your lovely words! I’m honored and grateful!
unfortunately, most of the products I review here are paid full price by me! some of the products are purchased during 20% Sephora Sales or Douglas Sales, mostly loyalty card discounts…
I wish I was lucky enough to receive products from the brands I love! 🙂 but that doesn’t happened…

I hope they hook you up with some serious discounts, cause your reviews are awesome! I’ll start collecting in my piggy bank and hopefully will be able to buy some 🙂 lol…Much love XO

I’ve been wearing this foundation for about 3 years, and I still love it more than just about any other fundation that I’ve tried, even the Chanel Vitalumiere and the Christian Dior Diorskin Nude. Especially the buildability and coverage is the one thing I love about it!

Yes! It’s the best foundation for when I have a not-so-good-skin day! I prefer it to any foundation because it doesn’t oxidise either and it never looked cakey no matter how much I applied because it somehow manages to blend in like a second skin! 😊👌xx

Hi I know this is a late reply, but I wondered if you had any advice. I have combination skin and can get an oily t zone. If I break out it is around the jaw area. I am torn between this foundation, Dior star and Charlotte tilbury magic foundation.
Have you ever tried any of these?

Hi my lovely Nicole! Thank you so much for stopping by!
And no worries, your reply is not late at all! I’m happy to help you!

First of all you need to do some investigations about what’s breaking you out! It’s not a certain foundation that does that… It’s usually a certain substance/ingredient that can be anywhere – even on your skincare… Yes, you heard me right! It can be anything from a natural oil you apply on your face, to your cream, washing product, makeup remover, your foundation, concealer… Even the way you apply your makeup and what you do to remove it is important and can break you out!
Let’s not forget about the hormonal factors as well!
So yeah! Make sure you take care more about your skin an pd all makeup will work equally beautiful on you too!😉😘

As for a foundation recommendation from these three… I’d say it depends on what your needs are…
If you want a higher coverage, long-lasting and matte finish one definitely go for the Giorgio Armani…
If you want a medium, buildable base that gives you a beautiful glowing effect without making you look greasy – yes, Dior Star is the one for you… After a while, and I mean towards the end of the day, you might need a bit of setting powder in the t-zone with this one!
As for the Charlotte Tilbury one, I already ordered it and I’m still waiting for it to arrive… It will be here by Christmas time so keep an eye on my blog! I’ll have a review on it soon!

I use Zen Obagi skincare for the break outs and acne is always normally on my jaw line but I am told that is my polycystic ovaries hormonal acne.So I keep using oil reducing products.
I got colour matched for Dior star, Charlotte Tilbury magic, Chanel Vita lumiere and Armani Luminous silk.
So far I think I am leaning towards the Charlotte Tilbury and the Dior. The Armani had no spf in it which put me off a bit.
I am going to put all three on my face and see which is best. I am looking into a primer and powder too.

The new Charlotte Tilbury foundation is awesome! I finally got the chance to try it on! Good stuff! Kind of similar to the NARS Luminous Weightless Foundation they came with earlier this year! Have you tried that one? 😊xx

Be careful with your SPF! It tends to breakout your prone to breakouts skin! So be careful what you put on your skin!Use a lightweight one!
Same goes with the primer! Silicone-based ones tend to clog pores and cause infections, such as breakouts, irritations etc…

Have you tried to treat your acne from the inside out, lovely? You said that it was a hormonal issue… 🤔
LikeLike
My hormonal issue is polycystic ovaries so short of taking the pill or having a hysterectomy it will always be there. I eat clean and don’t really eat sugar so I am stuck with it.
I have bought a primer called smash box it seemed amazing but I will look out for if it causes break outs.
