I’ve been meaning to write this post for a good while now because this is the time of the year when I feel my skin is suffering the most from dryness, dullness and irritations due to all those “goodies” I’ve treated myself to during the holidays but also the crisp and often windy transitional weather…
So, if for whatever reason you suffer from lack-lustre skin as well, stay with me until the end of this post for some suggestions to repair that.
You might know by now that I’m all about that natural, glowing, healthy looking skin and the key to achieve that “canvas” is a good skincare routine. A good cleanser to get rid of all the impurities with an amazing toner over that, and THE moisturiser! You can never have enough of that during this time of the year!…
My favourites at the moment:
– Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm Anti-Ageing doubled by a gentle exfoliator like this one also from Elemis Gentle Rose Exfoliator ( both recently reviewed here )
– Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Face Mist
– Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate ( already reviewed here )
– First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
Skincare done, the most obvious for a healthy, glowing-looking skin is a simple yet effective makeup…
I love:
– to apply the Elemis Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm Anti-Ageing which has the correcting properties of a makeup product and doubles as a moisturizer as well ( what did I told you? Moisturiser is never enough this time of the year!!! ). I already spoke about this one in this post here. Before falling in love with this, I used almost every day even on my days when I didn’t put actual makeup on, my Omorovicza Complexion Corrector SPF20, previously reviewed here
– then to use a lightweight foundation, like the new release from Dior, the Diorskin Nude Air Serum Foundation; full review here
– then I go nuts with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette ( review here ) and, because that’s not enough glow for my liking I add a bit more with this amazing Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Palette ( review on that here )
– I might as well skip blush, but ever since I got this amazing Guerlain Météorites Pressed Powder in #4 Doré, there’s nothing else on mt cheeks but this one. I know what you’re going to say… “Hey Annie, that’s a highlighting powder as well! And it’s not the right shade for you!” Really?! Who said that you’re only meant to use a product only for what it says on the pan?! I especially bought it in the darkest colour to use it as a blusher/light bronzer and I’m so happy with my choice! I have a review on this coming soon. here.
– to keep my eyes simple with simple eyeshadow like the Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in #22 Pale Barley, I have this one in the old formula and it’s still a favourite or the NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Alhambra ( review here )
– the lips sheer as well with an easy going shade like one of my sheer shades – my Tom Ford Lip Colour Shine in #05 Bare or simply a lip balm like the Dior Addict Lip Glow Colour Reviver Balm or my beloved By Terry Baume de Rose ( both previously reviewed here ).
The result is a fresh, healthy look easy to achieve and to be transformed from a day to night simply by adding a black eyeliner or by smoking the eye a bit and changing the lip colour with a more daring one like some of my favourite reds ( here and here… and here… and here… ) or a good nude ( review here ) or even a bold dark lip ( here ) if you feel like.
What do you do to refresh your makeup? How do you get ready for the warmer months?

I really enjoyed this post! I actually have one of the products you mentioned lol. I have a deluxe sample size of the Balance Me Eye Cream and I love it! I got it from Birchbox one month. Which reminds me I need to put some on tonight lol. I use my Benefit Hoola Bronzer or the Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer and my Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter usually. I feel like I have mentioned this before. Anyhow I hope your doing well and having a great week Annie! ❤❤ Lots of xx

Hi my beautiful! You did mentioned the Hoola bronzer and the Mary Lou-manizer highlighter which I’m dying to try myself but I’m afraid it will forever be on my wish list… 😩😔
The Bakance Me is truly a good product. It is hydrating enough but not greasy at all and it doesn’t interfere with any makeup you put over it, foundation, concealer, cream eyeshadow etc. …
Do you change your makeup for spring?

Yes I think I do change my makeup up a bit and tend to go for more fun pops of color rather than neutrals. I have been loving shades of pink! Especially lipstick 🙂 How about you? Lots of xx 🙂

Well, I’m for nude makeup all year round! But when we finally get into spring I sure bust out more of my skin brighteners and highlighters, my bronzers and of course, my bright lippies as yourself…😁😁😁
Can’t wait for the warmer weather though! Here it’s still snowing… Not like a snowstorm or anything! Just that watery annoying snow!

Ah, such lovely products. CT Film Star Bronze and Glow and HG Ambient Lighting palette are all my luxury product wishlist. 🙂

Hi my lovely Stephie! I definitely recommend both of them!… Even though I don’t think you should spend your money on both… 😉. don’t get me wrong! They BOTH are absolutely fabulous products, but definitely an investment!
I would rather go for the Hourglass Palette because it’s more compact and it has 3 different products, therefore it more convenient for traveling with it. The shades are a bit more discreet and more everyday appropriate, when the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar is more of a going out type of product…
Again! Both are amazing and definitely recommend both! 😉

Great choices!! The filmstar palette remains so pretty, and that Guerlain powder looks amazing 😀
I just wish I had the opportunity to try out more skincare, so irritating that i only have one face and need to trial products for at least 3 to 4 weeks 😉

I absolutely adore rosehip oil for my skin, I would recommend Trilogy but there are other brands out there. Also, I have only just started on clinique’s take the day off balm and pai’s avocado and jojoba day cream but so far I really like those 😀

The Clinique Take the Day Off is a classic! It’s an amazing balm cleanser that will last you for such a looooooong time! LOL
I’ve been meaning to try rosehip oil for such a long time now since rose infused waters are some of my favourite skincare products!
I’m yet to try anything Pai, even though for whatever reason the brand doesn’t convince me! I had an order cancelled so I ended up not trying them after all…
Thanks for the suggestions my lovely!

I have been meaning to try the Clinique Balm for ages, but it wasn’t available here for a long time (no idea why, silly brands with their area restrictions)!
Rosehip oil has really been a life saver for me, helped me through some difficult skin times 🙂
And how irritating that they cancelled an order, I hate poor service.

I know what you mean and I don’t understand brands policies either! For instance at my Chanel counter there are entire collections that aren’t available!
No no my lovely! It was me who cancelled the order and the site I ordered from was nice enough to help me with that!
Any good rosehip oils I should try next? The first that came into my mind was the Clarins one… If I’m not mistaking!…

Annie, somehow I saw your comment on my notifications and then it disappeared- I couldn’t find it anymore almost like it had been erased. Thanks for the feedback though. 🙂 Initially, I saw the HG palette but decided to skip it but I have seen it on so many bloggers pages that I figured it’s worth a second look. Sephora is having their sale soon so I am hoping to be able to purchase this one. Thanks again! One day I’ll get the CT one too! Perhaps when the Matte Revolution lipsticks launch here which won’t be until September sadly but at least it gives us a chance to save up. 🙂

No worries lovely! Who knows what happened with all these uptades lately! 😕
Definitely my first recommendation it would be the Hourglss Palette! I don’t know if I already told you that and why…
I’ve heard about the CT Matte Revolution lipsticks from Jacqueline! 😳 Do you have any idea why? From what I can remember they were supposed to be out by now…

I know! My only concern is that I don’t want to overlook any comments-that would be terrible. 😦 Yes, you explained that the HG is versatile.:) I have no clue about the CT ones. I heard this from Janet from Janet and Jot and was so bummed. She talked to a Nordstrom rep who says that anticipate these coming out in Sept and that right now it is only UK exclusive. 😦

Hey Annie, just a quick question. What sort of brush do you use to apply liquid foundation. I am thinking of getting one from tom ford.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hi my lovely! It depends on the actual foundation! For instance for this new Dior Serum Foundation I like precisely the Tom Ford 02 Foundation Brush. Then I come in with a damp beauty blender to even out everything… I love using the same brush for the new NARS Weightless Foundation too. I also love for very liquidity foundations the flat top Dior Fluid Foundation Brush #12 and the Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush.
I really hope this helps! Lots of xx

Thanks Annie. I think Tom ford has released a new brush just for its cream foundation, but I don’t use cream foundation, I shall check all those brushes out. =)

They have the #02 Cream Foundation Brush I told you about and another more classic-shaped one still for foundation! It’s the #01 brush. None is a recent launch though! 😳
I use the #02 for different types of foundations though, from the most lightweight to the creamiest ones and I’m very pleased with it! It doesn’t mean that if it’s meant to be used for a certain product or type of product it can’t be used for anything else!
That’s just my opinion though! 😉
Definitely give all these brushes a go! And stick to the one/ones that please you the most! 😊

Awesome!!! Thanks Annie cuz i really want a good brush to apply foundation cuz i am using a sponge now, it absorbs most of my foundation and it’s a waste. 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
You’re most welcome my lovely! 😊
And your sponge absorbs lots of product because you’re NOT USING it DAMP! Spray it with some face mist, MAC Fix Plus or whatever watery product you have in hand and you’ll notice a dramatic change in the way the sponge applies your makeup, and of course the water will prevent it from “sucking up” your product as well!
My favourite beauty sponge is from Real Techniques! Which one do you use?
