Happy Halloween my children from your Dracula’s Wife for the day!

We’re not traditionally celebrating Halloween here in Romania; it’s one of the holidays imported from other parts of the world, as one always does! Any excuse to throw a party is more than welcome, right!?

Anyway, it’s my second Halloween as a beauty blogger so I thought I’d create this vampire inspired look! What else to expect from a descendant of the Prince of Darkness?!

Well, it looks classier and more approachable than my original “husband”‘s appearance – if you ask me! But I hope you like it as well!

CHANEL 2015 Collection “Les Autumnales” Rouge Coco Shines: Mélancolie & Téméraire

Inspired by the beautiful Autumn foliage, Chanel came out this year on the market with an extremely rich tapestry of shades that dress the eyes, the cheeks and the lips with the most exquisite earthy neutrals and copper tones – eyes and cheeks and a blaze of deep reds for the lips… All falling under the name of Les Automnales 2015 Collection.

My picks: two of the new lipstick releases, the Rouge Coco Shines #99 Mélancolie and #112 Téméraire. I obviously had to pick the Rouge Coco Shines because it’s simply my favourite lipstick formulation of all the sheers that I have ever tried, right there with my Tom Ford correspondents ( see review/comparison between the two here ).

The Chanel Rouge Coco Shine #99 Mélancolie is on the nude side. A very rich, warm caramel brown, with visible shimmers in it. On my pigmented lips tends to disappear due to its sheer finish, as expected from all the Coco Shines. It’s an excellent everyday/any occasion lip colour, very hydrating, very natural on the lips. But if your lips are less pigmented than mine, then I guess you’ll be able to enjoy even more this spectacular Autumnal colour.

The Chanel Rouge Coco Shine #112 Téméraire on the other hand, surpassed all my expectations. A very deep, very pigmented, almost blazing red, Téméraire transfers on my lips with an unexpected pigmentation and coverage. With this one what you see in the tube you’ll have on the lips as well! And with the same beautiful formulation and glossy/sparkly finish.

They’re both two very well balanced lip colours that I’m sure I’ll wear a lot this season. Especially because of the formulation and not because of the actual shades which, let’s be completely honest here!, they’re not particularly unique!… Which also makes me think that they’re going to be good all year rounders as well! Not must haves though… Unless you’re not as mad as I am about this formula! Haha!…

What  I would definitely recommend from the Chanel Les Automnales 2015 Makeup Collection would be their Limited Edition items ( which I wasn’t able to get my hands on for the life of me! sighs ), starting with that amazing Les 5 Ombre de Chanel Eyeshadow Paette, called Entrelacs, a way more approachable version of the one from last year and definitely the Illusion d’Ombre in #111 Rouge-Gorge – as its name suggests, a “gorgeous” copper creamy-mousse eyeshadow.

ESTÉE LAUDER Pure Color Envy Matte Lipstick 130 Desirous

Half throughout this year, Estée Lauder came out with these new Pure Color Envy Matte Lipsticks. The teaser was the KJXEL Restless – a gorgeous red colour in an unique matte packaging, with Kendall Jenner’s autograph on it! A true collector’s item!

I really like the Pure Colour Envy lipsticks and you might have seen them a lot on my blog! One of the best formulation I have tried ever since I really got into makeup ( bold statement, right?! ) and decided to be serious about it – translation: blogging… I really like this lipstick line – period!… So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered they were going to launch a full line of Mattes as well!

I have one personal observation though! I wanted to read more reviews about the Estée Lauder lipsticks, but it was rather difficult to find them online! I’m not sure why, but I have a feeling that a lot of people still think about Estée Lauder products, lipsticks in particular, that they are so old fashioned and obsolete, and they mainly associate them with what their mothers and grandmothers used to carry in their makeup bags, with that old formula and a rather difficult strong fig scent to deal with…

But with these Pure Color Envy Lipsticks which are indeed very nice, I really think the the whole brand finally upped their game and definitely deserve more attention! 

They’ve ditched the old scent for a gourmet vanillary one, like those delicious cupcakes. The packaging was also completely revamped having that lovely magnetic closure, very satisfactory for us beauty addicts for the sense of luxury it provides. The colour combination is lovely as well navy and gold, modern but with a hint of retro given by the gold accents and the somewhat bulky shape of the tube.

The formulation of these Matte Estée Lauder lipsticks is so… so lovely! Creamy, matte, intense it glides on the lips effortlessly, covering them evenly in a single swipe. They are very opaque, daring matte colours ( at least the ones that I own: Restless and Desirous ), and they last very well on the lips throughout the day. Once they fade, they do it with dignity and they won’t make you look like an unintentional  Halloween character!

I hope you get to see through my limited 2D pictures how creamy and beautifully matte this formulation is! And extremely moisturizing for being a matte! And when I say “matte”, I really mean it! This is definitely a matte finish… Not a creamy matte like the NARS Audacious lipsticks, no traces of shimmer or glossiness at all! Lately, I prefer lipsticks that they really “can do” matte… almost like the drying matte finish of a MAC lipstick, except for the actually drying part!…

Desirous – such a lovely, meaningful name ( desirous “adjective de·sir·ous \di-ˈzī(-ə)r-əs\ :wanting or wishing for something very much : feeling desire for something”, from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary ) is definitely an Autumnal shade. A deep, chocolate brown with red undertones, as matte in finish as it can get… I was telling you that I prefer this kind of vamp-y, deep, daring, statement lip colours, formulation and finish lately… It’s maybe because I think that I wore enough glitz, glam and glossiness on my lips last Summer… Therefore, a true matte finish and a dark lip colour capture the smokiness and the depth of this “sad” season…

I could babble and babble about the ESTÉE LAUDER Pure Color Envy Matte Lipsticks for hours and hours, so I might just stop now and ask for your opinion on these… Have you tried them yet? How do you reuse your empty Diptyque candle jars? And the #breastcancerawareness month

… This is what I’m doing with mine! 

You all know how much love Diptyque candles get in this household. And I’m not only talking about those gorgeous home scents, but the beautiful packaging as well.

I used to have jars in different sizes scattered all over my place and because I was getting too attached to some of them, I was keeping those in their original boxes! EMPTY that is! #hoarder much!?

… Until one day when I had to move house and had no room for junk, so “that” needed to go away. And so it did!

At the moment, the only empty candle that I have is this Baies travel size that came in a set of three ( see full post on it, here ) and I will show you how you can reuse it after all the wax is consumed.

First I clean the remaining wax by putting it under hot running water ( I prefer this method because I have to wash the jar anyway and the warm water does an excellent job! ), then I go in with an abrasive kitchen sponge and some dishwasher detergent ( taking care not to wet the label too much ), rinse it well and wipe off all the excess water with a clean cotton towel.

Now that our jar is clean, I will give you some ideas on what to use it for:

• to hold your nick-nacks, those pesky little things that always tend to disappear… like hair grips, hair ties or as pictured, cotton buds
• to hold your makeup brushes
• as a vase – these look lovely in pictures, you must’ve seen them all over Instagram and Pinterest.

I’ve been loving a lot daring lips lately and wore my deep berries, plums, burgundies, wines, chocolate browns and dark reds on any occasion…

But my choices are becoming more and more daring, going for darker and darker colours… The question is: How dark will I dare to go?

Right now I’m in this place of the colour spectrum… the dark, deep berry shade of Charlotte Tilbury‘s Glastonberry!

Glastonberry is in my opinion, the ideal Autumn colour for the lips… A deep blackened berry shade that will immediately draw attention to your lips! Yes, Glastonberry is an attention seeker! And it sure gets it! 

In the swatches above you can see it next to the Lip-Cheat Lip Liner in Berry Naughty, the best complimentary shade Charlotte Tilbury could’ve created to be worn with Glastonberry! 

Will Charlotte Tilbury release a product I won’t like any time soon? Well, that’s ever so slightly possible!

• a well done dark lip looks better when you have carefully defined lips. For that you MUST:

1. prep your lips first: scrub and moisture

1. line your lips with a lip liner and carefully draw the contours of your lips with a colour that matches your lipstick ( my lip liner of choice is from Charlotte Tilbury as well – the matching Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Berry Naughty )

The Classic Old Hollywood Diva Lipstick? w/ Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No. 1

Launched in honour of their eternal muse Sophia Loren ( b. 20 September 1934 ), just one day after her 81st birthday celebration, the Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick is every makeup collector’s dream. A Limited Edition luxurious item created by the Designers as a “loving tribute” to the Italian beauty icon and to all women out there.

Designed with the help of Sophia herself, this unique shade of red is unlike any other red you have ever seen! Described as “bright cherry-red” with deep pink, almost fuchsia undertones, this shade was designed to enhance the deep pigmentation in her lips, making it “her red, her signature” – a rich, glossy and unique shade!

The formulation is spot on! So creamy that glides smoothly onto the lips coating them in an ultralight, very comfortable sheer layer made with skin conditioning ingredients that add moisture, and a beautiful, glossy and glamorous shine.

The colour is easily buildable, without being patchy or feeling uncomfortable.

… Everything encased in this elegant gold tube with the autograph of Sophia Loren written on it!

Please excuse the crappy light, but this is how this lipstick looks against my already pale skin! Two swipes and it looks like the most wearable shade of “red” I own in my collection!

Confused much?!

The description on their website isn’t the most accurate, right?! I definitely see it more of dusky, a pink toned “almost-red” – if you insist, that should look wonderfully natural on most skin tones…

I guess that’s because it is so sheer it mixes with the predominant pink pigments in my lips and the result is this colour instead which, let’s be honest!, is absolutely fabulous… for a nude! So, actually, I don’t mind it too much!

*Side note: D&G never made a secret out of customizing this shade to enhance the deep pigmentation in Sophia’s lips though, so it should be expected not to look the same on everyone else!*

However, the only thing I found a bit challenging for me was the scent! That old, powdery, rose scent was overwhelming when firstly applied! It sure fades after a while but you have to give it time!

Trust me, everything else about this lipstick is SO amazing that I won’t be put off by such little details, and you’ll definitely see the Dolce & Gabbana Sophia Loren No.1 Lipstick featured in more posts on annie’s beauty… .

My MAC Eyeshadow Collection feat. Brulé, Patina, Espresso, Cork, Wedge, Honey Lust, Sweet Lust, Satin Taupe, Coppering, Greensmoke, Creamy Bisque & Top Knot

What kind of of a beauty blogger would I be if I didn’t owned some MAC Eyeshadows, right?!

Well, I do own a few that I have to admit I don’t reach out for as much as I probably should – you’re going to see in a sec, some of them are barely touched!…

Not that I don’t like the quality of them… They’re extremely pigmented, buttery soft and blend like a dream with the most trickiest eye tool, with a minimum of a fallout. Plus, the colour selection is every makeup lover dream! Check it for yourself here, on MAC‘s website!

What truly happens here is that I’m always distracted by my other eyeshadows from Tom Ford, Charlotte Tilbury, Burberry ( to name a few?! favourites )… They have become such an important part of my makeup routine, that my poor little MAC Eyeshadows had no other alternative than to collect dust in the back of my makeup drawers! #shame

*Side note: the whole “rotating your makeup thingy” it’s definitely not for me!*

Introductory ramble done, let’s move on to the actual review!

Brulé – a “soft creamy beige”* with a Satin finish, an excellent skin tone colour to be used as a base, by its own or to highlight.

Patina – a “taupe brown with golden pearl”* and a Frost finish. I don’t visualise Patina as a taupe but more of a muted, antique-y gold… Like those golden objects in my Granny’s attic, with the “patina” of time all over them! Great for an everyday makeup! Highly dupeable! ( See swatches below! )

Espresso – a “muted golden brown”* with a Matte finish. I don’t find Espresso muted at all! It’s a deep chocolate-brown, with golden undertones… Don’t you see it the same way? Grea in the crease to smoke out the look! Again, highly dupeable – swatches below!

Cork – another “muted golden brown”* but with a Satin finish. Lighter and warmer than Espresso. See dupes below!

Wedge – a “soft muted beige taupe”* and Matte finish. One of the most known MAC products and probably, my most used MAC eyeshadow – as you can probably see. Dupes below!

Honey Lust – a “bronze-dipped peach”* with Lustre finish. Excellent description! One observation though… Honey Lust and his sister Sweet Lust have obvious specs of glitter that are prone to fall outs, but used wet they create such an amazing glow on the lids as if they were glittey pigments.

Sweet Lust – a “pinky-rose”* with Lustre finish.

Satin Taupe – a “grey-brown taupe”* with a hint of purple and silver metallic sheen. It comes in a Frost finish. A cult beauty product, an essential in every makeup artist professional kit. Unfortunately, as you’ll see in the swatches below, it’s SO easily dupeable! 

Coppering – an “orange-copper”*, a Veluxe Pearl I simply adore this eyeshadow for this time of the year. It has the burnt orange-red colour of the fallen leaves and a beautiful, luminous sheen. Just beautiful! Swatches simply don’t do any justice to this gorgeous colour!

Geensmoke – another beautiful colour for Autumn. It’s a “tarnished olive”* eyeshadow with a Lustre finish. Like the other lustre finishes above, you might have some issues with the golden glitters in this one as well.

The last two are unfortunately Limited Edition items and not available at the moment at MAC counters or online.

Creamy Bisque ( L. E. ) is a soft off-white with pink sheen. It’s a Frost which makes it excellent for highlighting the inner corner of the eye, the brow bow even the rest of your face, if you like… It was part of the MAC Me Over 2011 Collection.

Top Knot ( L. E. ) is a charcoal with indigo-purple shimmers. It comes in a Velvet finish. Available for a limited period of time, as a part of MAC’s Brunette Blonde Redhead 2009 Collection.

NARS Cordura Duo Eyeshadow – review

NARS Cordura – an eyeshadow duo you’d be rushed to judge as a rather difficult product to work with… I know I did, the first time I saw it! And that’s been the main reason it sat for almost a year in the back of my drawer, waiting patiently for me to grow up and finally show it some love!

And that’s exactly what I’m doing in this post!

Cordura is a beautiful Duo Eyeshadow made of a medium golden-brown shade, with warm undertones and a complimentary cooler-toned, rich, chocolate-brown, both with golden shimmers in them – visible when swatched, but when applied on the lids the shimmer only gives dimension to the whole look, stopping it from looking flat and average.

The texture of these eyeshadows is soft enough to allow them to be blended out to the intensity you want your look to have, but you need to be careful when you apply them because the pigmentation and depth of both shades is simply insanely rich!

You also might want to take into consideration the fact that with both shades I’ve experienced enough fall out to make me use the the tissue “trick” when applying/blending them, which might be a minus for many of you as well.

The “lighter” side of the Duo is a shade that, for as much as I tried, I wasn’t able to find dupes for in my entire collection. And in all honesty, this was the shade that kind of put me off in the first place! But to my surprise it’s more wearable than I would’ve expected it to be, especially at this time of the year when earthy tones are my absolute favourites… Maybe because my eye sees a bit of copper in it too!?… I don’t know! Maybe it’s just me!…

Anyway, I find this shade a bit too dramatic for daytime on me and I’m kind of limited to use it for a smokey eye, evening look! Not that I complain much!… But I definitely think that it would make a fantastic all over the lid colour for any of you medium to darker skin-toned ladies out there, at any time of the day and all year round!

In comparison with Cordura‘s lighter counterpart, the “deeper” shade is more versatile and easier to work with! It can be used for a sultry, smokey brown eye – as an accent… Plus, it makes an excellent eyeshadow to be used wet for lining your upper lids instead of your usual liquid liner! It’s beautiful used for the “I’m-in-a-hurry-one-shadow-eye-look”, those mornings when you overslept… You know what I mean! 

This Duo plays well with other eyeshadows I already have in my collection… And we all know by now how many nude and earthy-toned eyeshadows I already own! So the possibilities are countless!
