If you are still wondering whether to visit Romania or not, I would definitely give you more than enough reasons in this blog post to book a full trip asap!

I mean… Just look how beautiful my country looks when she’s all dressed in white!

  img_0239img_0242

And if you are still wondering when it’s the best time to do it, my advice would be: late Autumn and Winter! This is the best time to do it simply because at this time of the year we have the best traditions! Remember my previous post on my beautiful Romania and St. Andrew’s celebrations? – if not you can still read it here – take that and multiply it by 100. That’s a little closer to what Christmas and New Year means to us Romanian.

I still have to refer to our ancestors and be grateful to them for everything that happens around this time of the year in our Romania. I know that we’re not the first to sing Christmas carols ( the first known Christmas hymns may be traced to fourth century Rome, read more here ), but we sure have some of the best on the entire Earth! So soothing and calming… And merry and joyful at the same time! Joyful would be the right word to describe them!

This one is by far my favourite:

Here in Romania, mostly children go carolling since they’re believed to be the purest amongst us and their voices reach God’s ears easier…

Here they are…

image img_0261 – children singing Christmas songs in church, on Christmas day

They sing about the birth of our Jesus and they thank God for sending His Son to save our souls! In exchange they receive hot drinks, pretzels, fruits and nuts and sometimes money.

It is also said the the house that doesn’t receive them isn’t blessed for the following year! It is also said that if you’re a young family and you want children, the first Christmas carols singers you receive will help you determine the gender of your next child.

From our Christmas dinner there can’t be absent what we call “turte”. It’s a traditional sweet made out of thin cooked dough leaves ( cooked on a traditional hot owen taste the best ), softened in sweet warm water which contains honey or sugar and that they’re layered carefully on a plate. Between the layers there’s a whole lot of grounded nuts and it tastes delicious! Nothing too difficult, a simple sweet with a lot of meaning, since our “turte” represent the sheets/napkins our Baby Jesus was wrapped in when He was born.

And since we’ve touched the topic Food, take a look at our winter specialties…

img_0293

… home made bread, which smells divine…

img_0290

… and so many goodies all home made, with fresh ingredients!

And this is what I put on my table this winter, made by yours truly!

annie's beauty... Romanian traditions

Leaving Christmas behind the next best thing in winter is the New Year’s Eve!… And not only because it’s my birthday! Haha! That too, but around this time of the year we have other beautiful traditions as well!

In certain areas of the country, you can find actual rituals of passing… for the old year, of course! These are supposed to make way for the birth of the new year! Again, there’s lots of singing and dancing involved containing happy lyrics but also incantations, for well-being , prosperity, happiness and protection from evil and its deeds.

Two traditional dances are important now, especially in my region, Moldavia – the Dance of the Goat and the Dance of the Bear.

Here you have the Dance of the Goat

Why the goat? Because our ancestors believed that the goat was the animal able to tell whether they’ll have good weather or bad weather. Of course, this wasn’t the actual occult, empiric meaning of it! Back in the day, everything had to do with the ritual of the dead… Well especially the undead I was telling you about in my St. Andrew’s blog post! Our ancestors were wearing masks ( of goats, bears, horses, etc. ) to protect themselves from evil spirits! Nowadays we kept this tradition alive without necessarily believe in its meaning… But it sure is a spectacle to look at every time!

Also, in our pre-Christian culture the bear was a sacred animal… So sacred that even the god of our Geto-Dacians ancestors wore its name: Zamolxis ( zamo = skin, olxis = bear ). So the bear was a totemic animal, feared and equally appreciated in our ancient culture! Same as the wolf!

The bear, more than any other animal is the main character of so many legends… He was supposed to hold the pillars of the Universe on its shoulders… Our version of Atlas, the Titan that did the same – if you like. The two constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, the same as in the Greek mythology, they’re linked to the ritual of passing and the transformation of the soul in the afterlife in our culture as well.

The Dance of the Bear has the meaning of the death and the rebirth of Nature, its whole choreography and the lyrics of the song that accompanies the dance express just that.

Also, by extension, it is believed that when the bear comes out of its hibernation spring will come without a doubt.

img_0285 img_0286img_0288 img_0249

It is a lovely show to look at!

Good food, entertainment, beautiful places to see, the most warm, welcoming and funny people to spend some quality time with… What else can you ask for?!

So next year I’m expecting you here, in Romania to celebrate winter holidays together, Romanian style!

I hope you’ll enjoy this post, which is different from what I have you used with! Please feel free to comment and to let me know what are your favourite winter tradition of your country…

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

Lancôme concealer – review

annie's beauty... Lancome corrector2

Last week I was telling you about the Lancôme Blush Subtil Palette which contains one of the most beautiful blushers I had the chance to wear that doesn’t get the right attention in our beauty world… Well, this is another product from Lancôme I unfortuately had no chance to read much about…

image

This correcting/concealing little pot of wonders was a gift I received a while back from a friend of mine who’s totally loving it. I can’t remember its complete name and I need to apologise for that lovely, but I got it out of its little box ( which I obviously threw away! ), and on the actual pan it’s written only the shade: Nude.

annie's beauty... Lancome corrector1

The shade is a bit too dark for my at the moment pale skin, but it sure does a lovely job at concealling the areas with a bit of redness on my face, dark circles, discolouration, or healing spots – if any…

It has the consistency of Laura Mercier‘s Secret Camouflage, a bit wax-y and trick-y to work with at first… But when warmed up between your fingers it turns into this soft paste, so easy to apply and to blend – either with your fingers or a brush. I would recommend the use of a synthetic brush with this one!

If you’re familiar with Lancôme products and you happen to have tried their Teint Visionnaire Foundation already, the one that has a little concealer included on the lid, this has the same particularities as that one. I have to admit though that the corrector that comes with the foundation is a bit better in term of wearing time and colour selection at least.

The concealer from my little pot does creases kind of fast and it has this way of settling in certain fine lines I had no idea they were on my face in the first place!

Be careful oily skin ladies out there! It’s highly probable that if you get this one and use it, your makeup to slip and slide at a certain point in the day! I have no oily skin but I tried it as a makeup base on my lids, which are my most prone to get oily because of all my hooded-eye situation up there and the result wasn’t the most pleasant! Anyways, powder is highly recommended!

So, yeah! Check this one if you happen to be near of a Lancôme counter anytime soon! It might turn out that this is the product you’ve been looking for!

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

annie’s beauty...vday2016FOTD.1

I hope I’m not too late, but today I’m going to share with you, my lovelies, the makeup I wore on my date night out with my Mister, on Valentine’s Day!

As you can easily see I ditched the classic red lip look and winged eye liner, and went for a more peachy-pink-smokey eye paired with a matching nude lip, a look I’m sure I will wore over and over again throughout this whole upcoming spring…

IMG_0729

I took my inspiration from this gorgeous macaroon picture I found on Pinterest, paired it with a matching silk blouse I recently got on a glorious sale from H&M ( similar item here ), a feminine Dior-esque skirt and a pair of nude heels from my favourite Romanian brand, Smiling Shoes and ready I was for a fabulous romantic date.

And it was a fabulous one indeed!

The Makeup:

FACE:

  • NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation Light 3 Gobi
  • Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Dim light and Incandescent Light
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Dim Infusion

annie’s beauty...vday2016FOTD.2

EYES:

  • Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Color 03 Golden Peach, as a base
  • Charlotte Tilbury The Vintage Vamp and The Sophisticate Luxury Palette Colour-Coded Eye Shadows
  • Dior Diorshow Fusion Mono Long-Wear Eyeshadow 001 Lune, innercorner highlight
  • Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen 01 Deeper
  • mascara: a mix of the Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes and the Chanel Le Volume
  •  brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz – Chocolate, new in, not sure about this shade though

LIPS:

  • Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Pillow Talk blended, NARS Audacious Lipstick Anita and Burberry Lip Glow No. 09 Nude Beige

I hope you all had an awesome Valentine’s Day and that you are willing to share with me what you wore on your date!

[ Remember that I’m currently running another awesome Blog Sale here, on the blog, and that I still have a couple of gorgeous makeup items that need a new home! ]

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

TOM FORD Eyeliner – another Holy Grail product!

18 Thursday Feb 2016

eyeliner, holy grail, review, swatches, Tom Ford

Eye essentials as of late 2015 anniesbeautyblog1

Being the makeup snob that you all know by now that I am, there aren’t too many products that I easily include in my Holy Grail list of awesome products that I will always and forever recommend with my eyes closed!

For a product to make it on THE list it has to be tested thoroughly for a couple of months, in different weather conditions and different situations… And to be a repurchase! At least once!

Therefore, I can count my HG makeup products on the fingers of one hand: Chanel Le Volume Mascara – the waterproof formula, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light, the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Liner in Pilow Talk, whatever cream eyeshadow shade from Tom Ford and By Terry Ombre Blackstars ( you’ll definitely see a complete review on all my By Terry Ombre Blackstars pretty soon! )…

… and now the newest entry, the Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen, in shade 01 Deeper.

image

I did tried a couple of eye liners before from brands like Dior, Chanel and Clarins,  but nothing beats this Tom Ford one in terms of application, opaqueness, saturation and longevity. It is the easiest to apply – literally just one swipe and your winged liner is “on fleek”, not to mention that you’re ready to go in a matter of seconds, the most opaque, matte and saturated with colour from all the ones that I have used ( the darkest black liner ) and it lasts throughout the day without moving around – even if you have the oiliest of lids, once this sets is there for good… Even if you danced all night long!

It comes with a double ended tip, a slimmer one for precision and a thicker one to draw and fill in the flick. Both are so easy to use and the final result is close to perfection, even if you’re not the most experimented person when it comes to applying eye liner.

Here you have some examples of how the Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen looks on me. Keep in mind that I am one of those unexperimented persons I was mentioning before!

Dark Lips How to anniesbeautyblog2NARS Audacious Lipstick Ingrid anniesbeautyblog3FOTD October 2015 anniesbeautyblog2

Bottom line, the Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen, is one product I would definitely recommend buying with the eyes closed, one of those makeup items that absolutely justifies its hefty pricing.

What about you, Beautiful? What’s your favourite eye liner? What should I try next? What’s your HG? Do you have a funny “incident” that involves the use of an eye liner?

As always thanks for reading and…

See you soon!

xx, Annie

Lancôme Blush Subtil Palette #02 Nectar Lace

I have no idea why, but for whatever reason I kept postponing this review for the longest time.

This is the Lancôme Blush Subtil Palette #02 Nectar Lace, one of the most beautiful face palettes I had the chance to use! Briefly though… As I discovered something else that caught my attention and made me “hide” Nectar Lace under a pile of other beautiful blushers, powders and highlighters…

image

The packaging is so sleek and elegant, and the signature golden rose in bloom gives it a plus of class and style.

image

This is a lovely trio made of a contour shade, a gorgeous blush and a pretty warm highlighter. The blusher was the one that I was mostly drawn to, and the main reason why I got it. It seemed like the perfect dupe for NARS’ Orgasm, which I had swatched once in Milan but never bought!

The blush in the Nectar Lace palette is definitely a gorgeous peachy-pink, with specks of golden glitter through it. It’s very pigmented but a little bit too “dusty” for my liking, without it necessarily being finely milled. But it definitely gives “a flush of happiness” to your entire face.

It’s an excellent option for spring and summer, but I don’t see why you couldn’t wear it all-year-round.

image

The highlighter is the second best thing is this palette. It’s a warm, golden shade… Somewhere along the lines of Becca‘s Opal, if you know what I mean! Maybe something close to the infamous Champagne Pop – at least it looks so from the swatches I saw online!

My least favourite is the contouring shade which I find too warm and orange-y for my skin tone ( this palette was made for medium to dark skin tones anyway, but I simply couldn’t resist that blush! I mean… Could you?! ). It is also kind of patch-y and really hard to blend. Nothing can beat my Kevyn Aucoin Medium or the Tom Ford Terra.

image

Here you have the swatches. Pretty, aren’t they?!

Definitely check this little palette out, especially if you have the right skin colour! It would look amazingly on your skin!

For the obvious reasons I told you about at the beginning of this post, I’m selling this beauty hoping that it will find itself a better owner to love and cherish it the way I should. See my on-going blog sale here! Have a look! Who knows, you might find something that you can’t live without there!?

See you soon, Beautiful!

Loving nudes #10: NARS Audacious Lipstick Anita

annies-beauty-loving-nudes-10-nars-anita-4

Yeah, I know! You feel free to consider me rather late to the party, but this NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anita is nothing like any other nude lipstick I have tried before!!! And, let’s be honest here! It’s never too late to brag up and down about a gorgeous nude, right!?

annies-beauty-loving-nudes-10-nars-anita-2

There’s no surprise to many ( wether you’ve been following me for a while or not ) how much I love the NARS Audacious Lipsticks! They have been featured constantly in countless blog posts throughout this past year, and they were the stars of some of my most loved articles on this blog. Here you have a few, just for your entertainment:

  • NARS Audacious Lipsticks – One Week in Spring Colours OVERALL THOUGHTS
  • NARS Audacious Lipstick Ingrid How dark will I go?!…
  • NARS Audacious Lipstick Deborah

Back to my Anita now!

Anita was a courteous gift from a lovely blogger-friend – Michelle, who was kind enough to help me get my hands on Anita and her “sister” Lana. See Lana in action here!

While Lana is a fiery-red, bada** chick, Anita places “herself” on the other side of the spectrum, playing “the good girl”… A nude, awesome everyday colour, that works amazingly worn on any occasion and with any type of makeup, from the most neutral to the most sophisticated.

Anita is described as an “antique rose”, a medium rose pink, with warm brown-ish undertones which makes it the perfect MLBB ( my lips but better ) shade – if you were looking for one!

But from all the MLBB shades of lipsticks that I have tried ( and trust me, they were more than “a few”!?!?!!!!! ), I would definitely have to recommend NARS’ Anita as a first pick!… Simply because it’s one of the most beautiful creamy, pigmented formula that literally coats your lips with the most pigmented of colours, that also lasts a very long time on your lips without drying them.

Keep in mind that all NARS Audacious Lipsticks come in that lovely creamy-matte formula, which I was astonished to discover isn’t everyone’s cup of cake!?

annies-beauty-loving-nudes-10-nars-anita-3

Here you have a swatch comparison of Anita to some other nudes in my collection.

The closest dupe to it I find to be Tom Ford‘s Collin, from the Lips & Boys Collection and Estée Lauder‘s Intense Nude, which I will review soon.

One more thing! I do love to wear Anita on its own on my bare lips and it wears exceptionally well!… But for the sake of this review and to make it look more professional, I will add that THE ONE lip liner that goes absolutely fabulous with Anita is Charlotte Tilbury‘s Pillow Talk.

This is the combination I would definitely recommend with my eyes closed… If you were on a hunt for the perfect nude lip colour, that is!

Review done! So… What were you up to lately my beautiful ones? What new discoveries you have to share with me?

Anyways, it feels so so good to be back to YOU and your complete awesomeness!

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 260,000 times in 2015. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 11 days for that many people to see it.

Cheers to many more awesome years together!
