If there’s one thing Burberry does heavenly, these are the eyeshadows, especially for a neutrals lover like myself! There are lots of neutral colours in the Sheer range where Burberry took an otherwise boring neutral, added a little something into it and made it extraordinary!

This is Part III of My Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow Collection – Taupes, featuring my absolute favourite taupe shade of all times, #09 Rosewood.

[ See Part I: Pretty Nudes, here and Part II: Earthy Browns, here ]

I know that Pale Barley seems to be the popular one amongst the Burberry shadows but for me Rosewood was the stand out. In fact it was one of the first Sheer Eyeshadows form Burberry I’ve purchased and my most used one.

Rosewood is the epitome of the taupe eyeshadows…

image –  here is a swatch comparison of Rosewood with a couple of similar colors in my collection, with various finishes, textures and undertones

… A very lovely complex taupe though, neutral in tone, leaning more brown than grey and ashy, a shade of brown that works well for my skin tone due to the plum undertones in it and never makes me look tired. I dislike the ruddiness in a lot of browns eyeshadows but this is a perfectly balanced mix of browns and greys adorned with a slightly metallic, burnished sheen that I noticed in other Burberry colours as well ( see again Pale Barley! ), which definitely makes it an excellent shade for fairer, cooler toned complexions as well!

The pigmentation and the richness of the texture are as beautiful expected! Rosewood is incredibly silky, soft, buttery smooth and dense and a little goes a long way, as it also is easily blendable.

My go-to look using this eyeshadow is still a natural one ( this and some eyeliner and I’m good to go! ), but a more polished version of that!

The packaging is the classic, iconic, gunmetal, check-printed little box that comes with a mirror and a sponge applicator, everything wrapped up in a black velvet pouch! Sassy, right?!

Do you have a favourite taupe? Please share it in the comment section below!

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful June!

See you soon, beautiful!

xx, Annie

annie's beauty... BURBERRY makeup

Today I’m bringing you the second part of my Burberry Sheer Eyeshadows mini-series, one where I present you two amazing earthy-brown shades, unique and of exceptional quality, as all things Burberry.

Here you have the Burberry Sheer Eyeshadows in #02 Almond and #23 Dark Sable.

And if you missed out on the first part of this collection, here you have the link to some gorgeous nudes.

image

#06 Almond is another subtle amazing colour from the Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow range that it is the most appropriate for those who are looking for a natural, no fuss, everyday makeup look.

It is a lovely medium brown shade, with some warm golden undertones and the most discreet, finest sheen ever that doesn’t even translate to the eyelid.

It is one of the most versatile eyeshadows in my collection! I used it by itself,   all-over the lid for a quick look, blended out, layered for a deeper look… and as a bronzer! Yes, my fair skin allowed me to use it to define and warm up my face a little, without overreacting though because I was afraid it might turn too orange on me! I wore it the most as it is meant to be used, as an eyeshadow, paired with #02 Trench, from the same Burberry Sheer range, for a soft neutral look.

image

As you can see it is really pigmented, but it can be easily sheered out. In the picture above you have it swatched heavily to see it at its best next to a couple more shades from my collection that I think they look really similar!

A you can see the colour #2 Enhance from the Charlotte Tilbury The Sophisticate Palette is a bit warmer than Almond. MAC‘s Cork is the closest in colour and finish if you ask me, because I can sense the same warmth and a bit of sheen in both. And there is Wedge which is a bit colder, with ever so slightly taupe-ish undertones, but pretty close to Almond as well.

image

Next I have another gorgeous earthy-toned eyeshadow, #23 Dark Sable.

Dark Sable is a gorgeous dark cool brown shade, and compared to Almond this one has, without any doubt a matte finish. It might don’t look like too much in the pan, but this is one of those colours that blends so beautifully and effortlessly, and I sure hope you can also detect the slight khaki and olive-green undertones of this eyeshadow, that makes it so different from all the browns I own in my collection. It is the perfect colour to add some depth to any look and to transform it from day to night.

image

And as you can easily see, I have quite a few browns to compare it with!

From all the shades here I find it to be the closest in colour and finish to Charlotte Tilbury The Sophisticate #3 Smoke and MAC‘s Espresso, only that Espresso has more warm undertones to it! When blended, By Terry Brown Perfection turns out to be pretty similar in colour, but the shimmering finish of that one will blow you away for sure. That’s not the case with Dark Sable though. NARS Cordura Eyeshadow Duo has a deep brown pretty similar when it transfers on the lids to Dark Sable, but with little specs of gorgeous, holographic glitters. And another option would be the deep brown colour from the Dior 5 Colours Palette #609 Earth Reflexion, which is basically the same colour in a satin finish.

As I said in my previous post, My BURBERRY Sheer Eyeshadows. Part I: Pretty Nudes – #02 Trench and #22 Pale Barley – review, swatches, comparisons and dupes these eyeshadows are made of a soft, finely mild powder that literally adheres to the lid with just one touch of the brush! I definitely advise you to tap the excess when using darker colours, like Dark Sable though!

What do you think about these two shades beautiful? Have you used any Burberry Sheers until now, or those new formula eyeshadows they came up with at the beginning of this year ( see review on those new ones I own this far here )?

What dupes would you recommend for Almond and Dark Sable?

See you soon, beautiful!

xx, Annie

annie's beauty... BURBERRY makeup

Starting today, I decided to share with you my favourite eyeshadows in my makeup collection – the Burberry Sheer Eyeshadows.

*A little spoiler!* There are a few eyeshadows that I’ve recently got and haven’t had the chance to use because I still need to photograph them… But I will tell you this: they look amazing and they’re everybody’s favourites!

As you can see, these are the mono eyeshadows and I managed to build a “small” collection before Burberry launched them in a new formula as well. I only have 2 new Wet & Dry Burberry Silk Eyeshadows but I will definitely get more. You can read about those, here.

On Burberry website the formula of the Sheer Eyeshadows is describes as “a powder colour in a range of weather-inspired shades”, made with an “innovative formula uses silicones for smooth and flawless application and contains micronised satin smooth pigments to ensure long-lasting colour”. Very technical, right!

What I think about them is that they are made with such a soft, finely mild powder that literally adhere on the lid with just one touch of the brush! Even though they are buttery-soft you won’t experience too much fall-out, thanks to those silicones they mentioned they’ve incorporated in the formula!

With darker colours I would advise you to tap off any excess from your brush though, not only because there might be a bit of fall-out but mainly because these eyeshadows are extremely pigmented, and this little action will make the application easier for you.

Also, they come in a wide range of shades which can be blended to create a range of eye enhancing colours, all muted down – a characteristic you can easily recognize them from and which is supposed to mimic the well-known English weather.

The packaging is another distinctive mark of Burberry Eyeshadows, and it is the gunmetal coloured magnetic case, with the iconic check print on it. The same print you will find when you will open the case on the actual product! Simple and elegant!… And a very pain to use for the first time!

Other details: 2.5g of product; comes with a soft brush; they are made in Italy!

***************************************************************

Now onto the main reason of this post, my pretty Burberry Nudes! I have two to show you: #02 Trench and #22 Pale Barley.

image

The Burberry Sheer Eyesahdow in #02 Trench is as you can see from the swatches below, the perfect match for my skin tone and it is my favourite when it comes to using a base to start my eye makeup from. It’s a butter-coloured soft powder, a very light shade of beige with the most discreet sheen to it, which doesn’t transfer at all on the skin.

image

Here you have Trench compared to some similar shades in my collection. MAC Blanc Type is more white and sheer, and it has more visible specks of glitter; it was my go to base and inner corner highlight a while back. MAC Brulé which comes out more pale than Trench and with a bit more sheen to it. #1 PRIME from Charlotte Tilbury The Sophisticate Eyeshadow Palette ( see full review here ) is the most similar to Trench in both texture and formula, and in finish as well, only that I find #1 PRIME to be a bit warmer on me. Sephora‘s Lazy Afternoon is again, a more pale beige still opaque but with a straight out matte finish.

image

Next is #22 Pale Barley, probably the most known and loved and hyped Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow from all the 20+ shades in the range. It is is a pale, light to medium nude brown shade, with the most beautiful warm, golden and summery gold shimmer and sheen finish. You might see it light a light, warmer taupe but it looks darker in the pan than it applies on the lid or it comes out in swatches and it definitely works so well on all skin tones because it’s such a wearable colour!

I have it swatched next to MAC Patina which is less golden and shimmery and a deeper brown colour. This Dior shade from #609 Earth Reflection Eyeshadow Palette ( read review here ) is even a darker brown than even Patina and also more cool-toned. Chanel # 45 Safari, even if it looks pretty similar in its pan, when swatched comes out the closest to my definition of taupe, of all of these eyeshadows. When Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in Mirage ( read review here ) is the most bronze-toned one and warmer than Pale Barley as well.

image

Here you have them my lovelies, all analised and swatched for your reading pleasure!

But if you want to see more Burberry eyeshadows I have another review on a beautiful Burberry Complete Eye Palette, in #12 Nude Blush.

See you soon beautiful!

xx, Annie
