Seasonal Favourites Autumn 2015 anniesbeautyblog

This is the easiest favourites post I had to write in my almost two years of blogging!

I’m sure that you, my beautiful readers know already what I’m talking about! And the feedback from you was worth all the effort I put in each and every one of them! Thank you for always being so receptive and kind to me! It means the world!

In the past few couple of months you were able to see a huge amount of posts on dark lipsticks! I bet at times you got bored of dark lipstick swatches… But let me tell you this: it’s been a real pleasure and and some of the most fun blog posts to write and to photograph!

I wrote about NARS’ Ingrid and Deborah, Charlotte Tilbury’s Glastonberry, Estée Lauder’s Desirous and YSL’s Grenat Satisfaction. I even wrote about a high street option that took many of you by surprise ( post here ).

And even though they might seem many for you, I’m still left with the sensation that I haven’t found the right shade of grungy, dark lipstick yet… The hunt will continue next year!

Nothing kept my interest alive more than these lipsticks and I feel like no other products should be included in this Favourites post. They were the star and the highlight of my whole Autumn!

Which were your favourites?

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

NARS Audacious Lipstick Deborah anniesbeautyblog2

I really don’t want to be rude or offensive in any way but NARS’ Deborah is definitely a bada** shade!

I clearly remember myself saying in some of my previous posts that I couln’t see myself wearing such a brown, ’90 shade – idea that made me instantly dismiss Deborah from the swatches I first saw online… I was reserved indeed whenever I ran across brown lipstick in general, to be completely honest, thinking that it would be too much!

But here I am shamelessly talking about it!

NARS Audacious Lipstick Deborah anniesbeautyblog3

The NARS Audacious Deborah is acknowledged as a “chestnut” on their website. And I couldn’t agree more… I will describe it as a milk chocolate colour, a medium brown with warm, orange-red undertones that makes me think of misty Autumn days and hot chocolate with spices ( cinnamon and nutmeg especially! ).

I’m obsessed with dark, bold, grungy lips at the moment ( no surprise for anyone anymore, right!? ) and before getting Deborah the one I wore a lot was the Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy Matte in Desirous ( review here )… Compared to that, Deborah has more orange-red undertones, while Desirous has more reddish undertones – which I think make it a bit darker as well. Deborah has a creamy sheen to it, one of those “modern matte” finishes. Both are equally creamy, opaque in one swipe and long lasting, but I find that Desirous lasts a bit longer – as expected, since it’s a true matte formulation.

[ Read a round-up of my favourite NARS Audacious Lipsticks – the Spring colour Edit here and about my favourite dark lipstick of all time, Ingrid here ]

NARS Audacious Lipstick Deborah anniesbeautyblog4

Here, in these swatches I’m not wearing Deborah with anything underneath since I didn’t wanted to influence its actual colour in any way, but if I wanted to make it last longer I ‘d wear it with my Charlotte Tilbury Lip-Cheat Lip Liner in Hollywood Honey and it was equally beautiful except a bit darker! ( review on the lip liner coming up soon!!! )

With or without lip liner, Deborah is a beautiful and unique shade! Definitely not everyone’s cup of cake! And if you think that this might be a bit too much, please bare in mind that the warm undertones make it extremely wearable.

So give it a go! Try it in person at your NARS counter!… Who knows, you might actually end up loving it as much as I do!

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

Trending #grunge lipstick for Autumn 2015

dark lips, grunge lipstick, makeup trends 2015, NARS, Revlon, swatches, the '90, Tom Ford

The grunge lipstick was so trendy in the ’90 but I was way too little back then to wear it… Actually, to wear lipstick in general! And to be honest, I would’ve definitely lacked the courage to wear it anyway! Even as a grown up! Haha!…

Trending grunge lipstick anniesbeautyblog1

If you followed my blog for a while, you’re aware that I have a little obsession with dark lipsticks at the moment, and to discover now that it’s an actual trend sure makes me feel ahead of times! Anyway, I’m happy I can wear all of them now.

There are so many lipstick options to create a grunge lip. The majority of them are dark, with brown or deep purple undertones, or even with grey undertones for the most audacious/badass of us. Here you have some of the lipsticks in my collection that fit into this description, more or less… And I’ll be starting with the more dramatic ones and slowly go for the most wearable that still give away that grunge vibe.

Tom Ford Lips & Boys Alasdhair was one of the best selling lipsticks in this collection! It’s such a particular colour, a deep purple with grey-ish undertones! See swatches and read more about it and all my “Boys” here.

Revlon Va Va Violet is the only high-street lipstick in this post! Surprised, right?! I was drawn by the colour of it and the cream finish! But, unfortunately it was a pain to apply and to wear as well! It was all patchy and went all-over the place ( fine lines, teeth, I found some even on my tongue!… ).

Next is NARS Ingrid, that I just wrote a review on last week so make sure you check it out ( link here )! Again a deep, dark, bold lipstick perfect for this kind of look.

Another NARS Audacious option would be Deborah, a true dark chocolate brown you’ll see on my blog soon! It’s not exactly a proper grunge shade, but for me it just does the job! Can’t wait for you to see it and share your opinions on it!

And the most wearable of them all and the most versatile at he same time is another one from Tom Ford, a Matte this time, Pussycat ( review ) – a purple, lavender shade with grey undertones!

If for the other options I’ve mentioned above I’d keep the rest of my makeup rather simple – soft colours on the eyes, a beautiful feline flick and obviously lots of mascara, with Pussycat I’s go straight for a deep smokey eye on an evening out. For a day look with Pussycat on my lips, a soft smokey eye works the best though!

As you can see, my dark lipstick obsession went to another level! Here I’m wearing the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick #663 Va Va Violet, close to a true grunge but not close enough for me!

But let me tell you how grunge I would love my lipstick to be… I would want a mix of dark purple and grey, ashy undertones on a brown base!

Do you know a lipstick that looks like that? Please let me know!

Thank you so much for reading and as always see you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

Charlotte Tilburry Lip Cheat Re-Shape & Re-Size Lip Liner Berry Naughty, Charlotte Tilbury, Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry, dark lips, dark lipstick, review, swatches

Charlotte Tilbury lipstick anniesbeautyblog

I’ve been loving a lot daring lips lately and wore my deep berries, plums, burgundies, wines, chocolate browns and dark reds on any occasion…

But my choices are becoming more and more daring, going for darker and darker colours… The question is: How dark will I dare to go?

Right now I’m in this place of the colour spectrum… the dark, deep berry shade of Charlotte Tilbury‘s Glastonberry!

Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry anniesbeautyblog Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry lipstick swatch anniesbeautyblog

Glastonberry is in my opinion, the ideal Autumn colour for the lips… A deep blackened berry shade that will immediately draw attention to your lips! Yes, Glastonberry is an attention seeker! And it sure gets it!

In the swatches above you can see it next to the Lip-Cheat Lip Liner in Berry Naughty, the best complimentary shade Charlotte Tilbury could’ve created to be worn with Glastonberry!

Will Charlotte Tilbury release a product I won’t like any time soon? Well, that’s ever so slightly possible!

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

*Make sure you read more “technical” details about the Charlotte Tilbury MATTE Revolution Lipsticks, in my previous post here*

INTERESTING FACTS/ TRICS & TIPS:

  • a well done dark lip looks better when you have carefully defined lips. For that you MUST:

1. prep your lips first: scrub and moisture

  1. line your lips with a lip liner and carefully draw the contours of your lips with a colour that matches your lipstick ( my lip liner of choice is from Charlotte Tilbury as well – the matching Lip Cheat Lip Liner in Berry Naughty )
  • to see what I do to make my lipstick last longer, check out my post here.

Red Lips, Dark Lips – DO’s and DONT’s…

As many of you might know by now, I am a self-acknowledged and confessed lipstick addict. Who’s with me on this one too?

The obvious pattern when it comes to getting a new lip product – either I go for the reds or the nudes, with slight variations of darks and peachy pinks! Way to go Annie! Such original colour choices!

So today I decided again, to go for a different post than the usual reviews! Still a lip/lipstick related kind of post, since little by little this month is turning into a lip dedicated month, here on annie’s beauty… . And if you’re curious to verify that, simply take a look at my previous posts and you’ll see Tom Ford Lips&Boys lipstick reviews, Charlotte Tilbury MATTE Revolution lipsticks… We’re only halfway through this month and I still have quite a few lip-related posts scheduled!

annie's beauty... TOM FORD – wearing Tom Ford lipstick in #11 Crimson Noir ( review here )

Getting back to today’s post ( finally! ), let me add just one more thing I firmly believe in… The time to wear bold and bright reds or deep dark lip colours is… well, whenever you feel like! They say wear bright, glossy lips in summertime, dark plummy tones in autumn and “virgin”-like pinks in spring! I say wear your reds, and brights, and plums and pinks whenever your heart desires, if not for anything else just to break “the rules”! Ha!

For such a long time I used to be one of those women that thought they couldn’t wear a richly pigmented lip without looking ridiculous, but as long as you know what you’re doing these kind of lipsticks can look remarkably chic and be really empowering! So I’m not shy anymore when it comes to colour and I hope this post will be your guidance and inspiration to embrace the statement-making side of the beauty. Because a beautifully depicted lip can really make a statement!

Here is what to do to achieve such gorgeous lips!

DO make sure you prepare your lips before the application. As you take care of your skin before you apply your makeup, you have to make sure the canvas for your lipsticks is as well taken care of. Like this the colour will go on smoothly and it will last longer. So remember! Exfoliate and moisturize your lips before application!

DON’T by any mean, apply a beautiful red or a dark lipstick on a dry, chapped, peeling off lip! The color will “crack”/gather anaesthetically in all your lip lines and flake off, which will only accentuate the poor condition your lips are in.

DO use a lip liner to draw the contour of your lips. The pencil helps hold the lipstick colour in place, stopping it from “bleeding”.

DON’T go for a darker contour than your lipstick! It will make you look cheap! Keep in mind that we’re not in the ’90 anymore! So use a lip pencil similar in color to your lipstick or use an universal lip colour like this one from Dior I’m loving!

DON’T apply your lipstick directly from the bullet! Not even Pat McGrath, Andy Rowe, Charlotte Tilbury or Peter Philips do that, so why should you?! Invest in a good lip brush which will definitely make easier to apply the trickiest lipstick colour. Read about my favourite Tom Ford lip brush here.

annie's beauty... TOM FORD brushes

DO retouch any mistakes with a bit of concealer! You’re not a pro remember!? And any smearing on such lip colours tend to ruin the dramatic effect these impact on a look!

DON’T exaggerate with the makeup on the rest of your face and keep the focus on your lips! Keep your eyeshadows subtle, pair them with a winged liner and lots of mascara! Don’t forget to also define your brows! This will confer symmetry to the entire look.

DON’T leave the house without checking your teeth… You know what I’m talking about, right?!

And DO always use the shade of lipstick you love!

Here you have it, my/everyone’s DO’s and DON’Ts when it comes to wearing a bold lip… Be it a classy red or a daring dark lip!

If you have other tricks you want to share, please feel free to do it in the comments below!

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie
