Chanel Illusion d’Ombre Mirage & Dior Diorshow Fusion Mono Météore – Apparently the same… But quite different after all!

Mirage vs Meteore annie's beauty...

My history with Chanel and Dior is a beautiful and long one! These were the first luxury makeup brands that I got my first items from, when I seriously started to be interested in makeup! Still love them, I’m still getting products from them on a regular basis… Mostly from their Limited Collections, which nowadays come out with some absolutely fabulous collector’s items! Fellow beauty bloggers, you definitely know that nobody does Limited Editions like Chanel!!!

Anyway, long story short, what I see and like from Chanel and Dior it’s most likely to take home with me! Same happened with these two items: the Dior Diorshow Fusion Mono in 661 Météore and the infamous Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in 95 Mirage.

When the Dior Fusion Mono‘s first came out on the market, the Chanel Illusion d’Ombres rulled the “eyeshadows-in-pot” game! They were such an wow!-product… Creamy, pigmented, easily blendable, long lasting and in some colours that it would have been extremely difficult not to take them all home with you!… Good news, they still are!

But, knowing me he way you do by now, of course I had to buy the safest colour in the range Mirage! Read the full story and how I ended up getting Mirage, here! Little did I knew that I already had at home this lovely Météore which makes an excellent dupe for it!

SIMILARITIES/DIFFERENCES:

  • the most obvious is the packaging: same glass pots, with black lids and the logo of the brand on top
  • both come with applicators no one uses
  • both come in this beautiful to work with gel-like, bouncy, cushion-y formula
  • both pigmented – the Chanel Illusion d’Ombre beats Dior on this by just a bit, since with just one swipe of Mirage you can do your entire eye makeup, when with Météore you need to dip your finger more than once in the pot ( yes, I do find easier the finger application with all my cream eyeshadows, then I use a blending brush to finish the job! )
  • both easily blendable with both fingers and blending brushes
  • both quite sheer but buildable
  • Météore swiped once shows up more glitter than Mirage if swatched on the hand, but when layered on the lid it just shows up more of a sheen than a glitter
  • both eyeshadows need to be worked with quite fast, but once the Illusion d’Ombre sets is there to last the whole day, even on the oiliest of lids, when the lasting time of the Fusion Mono is less by comparison
  • Mirage is more of a taupe-ish deep bronze with warm undertones, when Météore is brighter ( due to its golden glitters ), more copper-y and with a more obvious glitter ( see swatching comparisons with other similar colours in my collection here ). The difference on the lids is barely noticeable though!
  • Mirage is softer and squish-ier than Météore, which makes it a bit easier to work with
  • neither of the two dried out, as I expected them to… Especially the Chanel Mirage – the Illusion d’Ombre being well known and hated for irremediably drying out!
  • both make excellent eye makeup bases

Strange enough, even though it’s more glittery than Mirage, I find myself reaching out more for Météore! It’s safe to say though that for a good couple of months I used nothing but Mirage on my lids!… Then a little detour happened… Something called Tom Ford and Charlotte Tilbury!… And stopped using both!

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

I think that both are gorgeous everyday shades, have excellent quality and they’re so easy to work with, even for us non-professionals!

Do you own any of these? Have you tried the Chanel Illusion d’Ombre yet? What about the Dior Fusion Mono?

I hope you enjoyed this comparison/dupe post, Beautiful and found it useful!

See you soon!

xx, Annie

Eye essentials as of late 2015 anniesbeautyblog1

I’ve been loving a lot a natural eye look lately! Since I focused my makeup mainly on the lips, always choosing dark, vampy, bold colours, I felt the need of a neutral eye makeup to balance the whole look!

Here you have my eye essentials as of late, some good old, trustworthy ones and some jaw-dropping, amazing new discoveries!

EYESHADOWS:

  • my absolute favourite and the easiest on to use those mornings when you’re late, is Burberry Pale Barley. A natural shade with a little twist, blends like a dream and you’re ready in 5 seconds

Eye essentials as of late 2015 anniesbeautyblog2

  • another favourite is Charlotte Tilbury’s The Sophisticate Eyeshadow Palette a good selection of warm, brown, neutral colours to help give some depth and definition to the eye
  • a new amazing discovery was the Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in Bronzed Garnet an awesome bronz-y, copper-y shade, very long lasting and easy to use ( review here )
  • the Tom Ford Cream and Powder Eye Colour in Golden Peach was the cream eyeshadow that I wore all Summer long ( you can see it in my Seasonal Favourites Summer 2015 as well ) and I loved it that much that I wore it a lot throughout Autumn too. See why in this post, here.
  • to highlight the inner corners of my eyes I preferred my all-time favourite By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Blonde Opal ( more here ), to a close tie with my Burberry Effortless Kohl in Stone No.3, which I also used in my waterline. I love Stone as it is such a natural, flesh-toned shade that helps brighten up any look.

EYELINER:

  • my eyeliner of choice was another new discovery, the Tom Ford Eye Defining Pen – the best investment in an eyeliner one can ever make and definitely holy grail material

MASCARA:

  • another holy grail, the best mascara ever, the Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara, the waterproof version, in black. Gives volume, defines the lashes without making them clumpy. Mine is on its last leg and I absolutely need to get a new one!

EYEBROWS:

  • I wore nothing but the Burberry Effortless Eyebrow Definer in Sepia No.2, as per usual when I go for a natural look. It also comes with this handy spoolie at one of its ends.

TOOLS:

I feel like our makeup tools are the unsung heroes we keep forgetting about in our posts. Here are my go-to’s as of late…

  • Tom Ford #11 Eyeshadow Brush ( review on #11, #13 and #21 here )
  • Tom Ford #13 Eyeshadow Blend Brush
  • Tom Ford #14 Smokey Eye Brush ( review here )
  • and Tom Ford #21 Lip Brush
  • the Shu Uemura S Lash Curler, the best eyelash curler for small eyes
  • and this Burberry sharpener that does the job extremely well

These were my hero products for my eye makeup look this Autumn! Have you tried them yet?

Feel free to share yours!

See you soon, Beautiful!

xx, Annie

Seasonal Favourites – Winter 2014-2015

Since I can finally say that I can see major signs of Spring after such a long Winter, I thought I’d do a Favourites post!

Now, I’m not the one to do these kind of posts on a regular basis, mainly because once I discover a product that I really love and I know it works for me, I totally stick to it for the longest time. So a monthly makeup favourites, or skincare favourites would be kind of repetitive and unnecessary. Plus to form a decent opinion on a new product, especially with skincare, it might take a lot more than one month.

But this past couple of months I’ve tested a good few new products that instantly stole my heart and made it to my Favourites…

Here you have my absolute Seasonal Favourites for the Winter of 2014-2015:

– festive red listick was THE thing for me this winter. I particularly loved these Tom Ford shades – Crimson Noir ( permanent ) and Alejandro, from the Lips&Boys Collection. I also loved the iconic Dior Rouge 999, the orange-reds Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy in shade Impassioned and Wild Ginger also from the Tom Ford permanent line and the Burberry Lip Cover in #18 Ruby. Later on I’ve discovered the new, reformulated Chanel Rouge Coco in Arthur, which made me dig out it’s matte correspondent, the Tom Ford ( again! ) Flame.

– for skincare, I don’t change it too much, I’m only adjusting it to the needs of my sensitive skin. But the products I loved the most were the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm Anti-Ageing, the Elemis Gentle Rose Exfoliator, the First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser which I like to use combined with the Diptyque Radiance Boosting Powder for a deeper cleanse, my holy grail mask – the Oskia Rainessance Nutri-Active Brightening & Resurfacing Mask and the new addition, the Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel Mask and of course, my beloved Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist. Mostly cleansing products now that I take a closer look! No wonder though! because I firmly believe that a clean skin is a good, healthy skin. And a flawless “canvas” also means an easier makeup application, with less products! I also have to mention my hands and lips saviours this Winter: the By Terry Baume de Rose and the Laura Mercier delicious gourmet hand creams.

– my favourite Winter home scent for the past two years has been this Byredo Bibliothèque Fragranced Candle. I can’t even tell you how much I love this candle and how many I have burnt down. This year I went for something different, something more smokey and warm, with comforting notes of patchouli, birch tar and guaiac wood – the Burberry Smokey Embers Fragranced Candle. It’s the perfect candle to “recreate the mood of an English fireside afternoon”, as they say on their website. Definitely give this one a sniff if you’re in a Burberry store.

– for fashion items I absolutely lived in my Smiling Shoes heels! You might think that I went bananas, especially if you know what winters are like in Continental Excessive Climates, but stay assured I still had boots on for walking outside, in the snow. But for work and going out, and winter parties these shoes never left my feet!

– for random favourites, I really got into tea which I think it warmed my body as well as my soul. I particularly loved the combination of strong, aromatic tea ( mostly from the Teapigs company ) and coconut milk.

Also my love for clementines went to another level of obsession, and I always found myself munching on them and these Milka cookies…

And I totally hated 50 Shades of Grey – simply because I can’t get excited about someone else’s sexual fantasies… No offense!

I hope you enjoyed my favourite things for the Winter months and please be kind and share yours!

Also, should I make this Seasonal Favourites a regular entry on my blog? What do you think?

See you soon, beautiful!

xx, Annie
