affordable makeup, Bioderma, Bourjois, l'oreal, Maybelline, NYX, Revlon, Rimmel, tag
I was kindly invited to do this tag by the lovely Alessia waaaay too long ago. So I thought it would be nice to actually sit at my desk and write this post already!!!
I admit it! This article is a challenge for me to write because I am a makeup snob and I buy high end – and above – makeup products and there are only a few cheap makeup items in my collection that I barely use! Keep in mind that the cheap makeup brands were the ones I started with, feels like ages ago!, so I will only talk about products I used at a certain point in my life or that I currently have in my collection. So for all the products I will mention which I do not own anymore, I will insert pictures.
Do not expect great things though!
This being said let’s start with the first question…
1. What is your favourite drugstore/cheap makeup brand overall?
– some of my favourite brushes
Definitely not the kind of answer you would expect but Real Thechniques. They have great brushes that cover all your needs and they are gloriously ( if that is even a word! ) affordable.
2. What are your favourite face, cheek and lips products?
Face the Real Technique brushes.
Cheek favourite: the NYX Taupe Blush. Amazing for contouring, which I am mostly useing it for but also for a touch of colour on the cheeks, especially on the colder months.
And lips the NYX Butter Glosses which in my opinion are a cheaper, decent alternative to the new mind blowing Dior Fluid Sticks 9 previously reviewed here ). Plus the Soft Mattes which are also amazing!
3. Least favourite product?
Bourjois eyeshadows. Great colours in the pan, not pigmented at all unfortunatelly, chalky – I tried them on once and I felt as if I had sand in my eyes, and the fall out is insane!
– Bourjois the pink one is called #05 and the purple one is #13. Great names, Bourjois!?!?!!! LOL And check out that fall out?!?!?!!??!!!!!
4. What is the best makeup bargain?
Those buy one get one free or buy one and another one half price Boots always comes up with. For the short time I lived in London, those used to rock my world all the time. I was particularly interested in mascaras: L’Oreal, Rimmel…
5. What is your favourite underdog product? ( Something you love but often gets overlooked )
It is actually an eyeshadow from an Avon eye palette which does wonders for my brows. So easy to use and colourwise it is a perfect match. I forgot about that one when I bought the brow kit from Guerlain, which btw it is absolutely fabulous! Now I finally got myself some Anastasia Beverly Hills brow stuff which I am beyond excited to try.
Would you like a post about how I groom my brows? Please tell me in the Comments section below!
6. A drugstore product that is overpriced!
I have no idea what to answer to this question since I have not tried that many lately! The one that popped into my head was Bioderma Sensibio Micellaire Water. But then again, it is not the cheapest… So, is that drugstore, high street or high end? Tell me what you think about both Bioderma and the product you think is overpriced in the comments below… I really need to be educated! LOL
7. Show your best drugstore dupes!
They would definitely have to be the L’Oreal Infaillibles eyeshadows, the ones that are always considered dupes for the Chanel Illusion d’Ombres or the Dior Backstage eyeshadows, or even for the amazing Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill eyeshadows. They are not as good as the high end ones but pretty comparable. Great colours, great colour range, not that much fall out and easy to apply. My favourite has to be Bronzed Taupe ( which I did own at some point ); great dupe for Chanel’s Illusion d’Ombre in Mirage.

8. A drugstore product that is not worth the hype?
Definitely the Maybelline Baby Lips something, something… I really do not get all the fuss around this product! A chapstick with a bit of tint, not hydrating, not moisturizing at all, not good as a treatment sits on the lips without doing anything… Big fail for me!
I hope you enjoyed this post! My apologies to Alessia for doing it this late! Feel free to join the fun, beautiful, and do this tag yourself!
See you soon!
xx, Annie
As soon as I saw the title I knew “wrong person” :p lol! Agree with the Real Technique brushes! They are really good! 🙂

Your rant on the Bourjois eyeshadows .. ❤
I only own one brush by Real Technique (the kabuki one which I bought for a ridiculous price at Superdrug one day.. 1 GBP and some pence.. I still think they mixed up price tags.. oh, whatever 🙂 )
Is there a particular brush by RT you like? xx
LikeLike
Haha! I can’t just pick one! I like the duo-fiber face brush, the setting brush and the sponge, you know, their version of the beauty blender. This little sponge has been THE ultimate “makeup tool”. Ever since I bought it I hardly used my trusty Tom Ford Foundation brush. It’s even better than the new Dior sponge which comes with the new Diorskin Star foundation.
And I totally agree… Their pricing is ridiculously good!
Do you have any recommendations?

Ah yes, I’ve heard great things about that RT sponge!
If RT was available here, I’d probably try out more of their products..
I recently bought a different beauty blender dupe from a German drugstore brand. We’ll see how that goes 🙂
Recommendations? Do you mean in terms of (drugstore) brushes?
Hehe, I haven’t tried the Bourjois eyeshadows (another brand that’s not available here, sadly) but your rant was so funny 😀
LikeLike
No no! I was thinking you have tried more RT brushes and you could share your favourites as recommendations! Are you currently living in Germany? xx
LikeLike
Oh no, sadly, the RT kabuki brush is the only one I own and tried so far. That’s why I wanted to know if there’s a special RT brush you liked 🙂
I would have to order from Amazon or some other website if I were to order from here.
Yep, living in Germany – the place where all the not-so-interesting brands are sold 😉

Oh! Don’t worry sweetie I feel you! Living that “bliss” too! LOL Thank God for the online shopping! Haha!
You can buy RT from http://www.feelunique.com, they offer free shipping for orders over 15 euros! 😉 xx

Oh! If you are from Germany, you have Douglas! And if we’re still talking affordable brushes, I bought from there a few years ago, some Barbara Hoffman brushes. I used to love their foundation brush and used it so much that one morning the brush literally fell off the handle! Lol
Have you tries those? Or better are they still available? LOL xx

HAHA, you must have loved that brush a lot then! 😀
Yeah, I know that brand but I’ve never tried Barbara Hoffman brushes as I haven’t looked into them enough.
Ones that are even cheaper but also quite nice (haven’t tried them all, but most of them get good reviews) are the ones by ebelin Professional. You can get them in any and every dm which is THE German drugstore chain 🙂
If you’re ever in Germany, make sure you visit a dm store http://www.dm.de/de_homepage/ebelin_home/produkte/ebelin_produkte_beauty/ebelin_produkte_beauty_pinsel/ The ones with the white bristles are nice. I love the Professional blush brush and the blending brush loads! 🙂

I don’t know how they compare to your favourite brushes, but the two ebelin brushes I mentioned above are really nice and I’d always repurchase them 🙂 They’re super soft, don’t shed, and blend in the product nicely.
Can’t say anything about the “regular” ebelin brushes (with the black bristles only), but they don’t look as good to me.
German bloggers and youtubers really like the Professional ones a lot, I think 🙂 At least that’s my impression when I read their blogs or watch their videos.

Definitely the professional ones caught my eye! The powder brush and the blush brush mainly! I love the two-tonned bristles and it they’re soft and don’t shed, more reasins to try them! 😉 Thank you for your lovely recommendations! 😉 xx
